centrifugal casting

metalsmithing has always been a tricky craft for me because unlike fiber and clay, metal is very stubborn and can be very expensive to make mistakes with.

centrifugal casting changed the entire game. you use wax to make a mold, which goes into a spinner mechanism that hasnt changed in over 100 years. this shoots the molten metal into the mold, and creates an exact replica of the piece of wax.

my favorite part about this medium is how “organic” the pieces come out looking. I loved playing around with the blob-like tendency of wax, transforming it into something so durable and rigid.

sweat-soldering

i tried my hand at sweat soldering before I tried centrifugal casting, and in all honesty the pieces i made i melted down but this one prevailed. because i love fish, and i love frank.
